Notes: Bennett Clark's Clydesdale broke the rear passenger's side wheel off in qualifying. Jeff Dane, owner of Awesome Kong, was driving for the first time in TNT competition in a year, after his younger brother, Steve, quit as driver. Awesome Kong's brake system failed prior to the first round race, disqualifying Dane from competition. Marvin Smith's Stomper was disqualified after a false start against Bob Breen's Wild Hair. Rod Litzau's USA-1 was present at the event, but was not functioning after hitting the wall twice in the first event. This would be a problem throughout all 5 shows, as several trucks lost control. Gary Porter's Carolina Crusher finally is able to take out Dennis Anderson's Grave Digger, after Anderson breaks. This event would mark the first win for David Morris' Equalizer, who would eventually win the 1989 points championship.
