CLAREMORE, Okla. -- A "monster truck" lost control during an exhibition and crashed through hay bales and a fence, killing the driver's best friend and injuring five other spectators.
Thomas Meents said the throttle stuck on his truck as he circled in the muddy track shortly before midnight Friday.
The truck flipped over onto the fleeing spectators, the Highway Patrol said.
Mr. Meents, 27, of Paxton, Ill., was not injured. But Mike Hickerson, 39, of Belton, Mo., was pronounced dead of a broken neck.
A caretaker at the Claremore Roundup Club near Tulsa said Mr. Meents and Mr. Hickerson were best friends. Mr. Meents "was very upset over it - we all are," Greg Hobbs said.
