Notes: This was the first time TNT had ever tried a figure-8 race. It certainly took a toll on the trucks, as this was a lengthier course than they were used to. Warren Hudson's Renegade I lost a front driveshaft, giving Paul Huffaker's Jus' Showin' Off truck an easy win. Huffaker was geared too low, so it was a lucky break for him. Steve Dane was driving Awesome Kong with a dune-buggy like shell of sheet-metal, after a non-televised crash a couple weeks prior to the event. Awesome Kong also had the 73" tires from the flareside Awesome Kong II, as the normal 66" tires were destroyed in the roll. Rich Hooser was having problems with Bigfoot all night, but got a couple breaks to get into the finals. Mike Whitt, trying to beat Hooser in the semifinals, violently rolled Stomper I in the middle of the track after losing the front driveshaft in the quarterfinals. Whitt, with a new engine combination giving him more horsepower than just about any other truck, otherwise may have won, as Hooser blew out a tire while finishing the race, then later Bigfoot caught fire. Scott Stephens was racing a week after flipping King Krunch end over end in a non-televised event in Pueblo, CO. Stephens and crew worked all week to put the truck back together, despite a 3-inch bend in the frame.
