Weekend Race Recap
Minneapolis, MN (November 25, 2000)
Written by Scott Douglass
Monster Truck Winner
Goldberg- Saturday
Monster Freestyle Winner
Grave Digger & Goldberg tied with perfect 30's- Saturday
Fans in the Metrodome were treated to one of the wildest USHRA events ever. Six monster truck rollovers had the crowd on it's feet through the event. The flip-mania started in the racing finals when Lyle Hancock rolled the Wrenchead.com Chevy in his final round loss to Tom Meents and Goldberg. Then in Freestyle both "Team Pezo" trucks, Predator and Prowler ended up on their roofs. Rob Knell flipped the Bulldozer shearing off it's huge white horns. After the roll-over in the racing finals Hancock refired Wrenchead.com and made it out for freestyle and flipped the truck again! Finally, Grave Digger came out for freestyle and Dennis Anderson laid down a patented Grave Digger performance. He blew a tire early but wouldn't stop and ended up on his roof at the end of his run. In Pro Arena Trucks Tim Moeller flipped his Grasshopper Ford Bronco; Rich Armbrust in the Rancho Ford Weekend Warrior, and Randy Rundhaug in Tragic Thoughts also rolled.
Eight trucks competed in Minneapolis: Grave Digger, Goldberg, Avenger, Predator, Prowler, Little Tiger, Bulldozer and Wrenchead.com. Goldberg was the fastest qualifier this weekend, and consistently was the only truck to finish the course in under 10 seconds. Grave Digger had fuel problems, killing his engine halfway through his first round loss to Predator. Wrenchead.com ran strong all night.
Demolition Derby ~ after 12 minutes of metal crunching, fire spitting and multiple close roll-overs, the demolition derby was won by Joel Johnson of Park River, ND in 1974 Chevy Impala.
