GraveDigger returns with Lyle Hancock resurrected behind the wheel! What a mash 'em, crash 'em action weekend! Hancock made a smashing return to the scene controlling the wheel of GraveDigger 2000 after being absent from the Monster Truck spotlight for four years. Hancock steered straight to the top of the mound Friday night for first place. Absence made this heart grow tougher!
Richmond action ignited with a bang on Friday night when Serge Beaulieu performed the Human Bomb. Beaulieu blew himself right out from inside a casket-sized box with a firey KA-BOOM. The trick went off a little too well, as the crowd witnessed flames jumping from Beaulieu, himself. Track officials fled to his side with fire extinguishers gushing. They were able to ****le the flames but Beaulieu stayed hot-hot-hot all night long. Later in the night, he flew off a ramp over three monster trucks on a motorcycle and safely glided to the ground. Amazingly, Beaulieu performed both tricks and suffered no injury at all.
The frenzy continued right on into Saturday night. The reign GraveDigger experienced Friday night took a mortal twist at the Saturday starting line. Before a tire could squeal from the line, Hancock tested his Remote Ignition Interrupt. He tried to refire the engine after the test only to discover that his starter had gone out. GraveDigger crawled back to the tunnel, unable to race at all. With tough competitor GraveDigger out of commission, the other Monsters growled in battle to take the Saturday trophy and Iron Warrior raged in to claim it.
Generation X reared high above the dirt in the wheelie contest when CRACK, his rear drive shaft snapped. But in saucy Gen-Xer style, Generation X still took the wheelie blue ribbon. The dysfunctional rear drive shaft made it impossible for Generation X to compete in the freestyle contest but he made it back in time for the first round of racing. He raced all night with only front wheel drive! Nothing is too big of a challenge for this Gen-Xer.
After the echoes of victory faded, Hancock reentered the center ring on foot carrying the microphone. He announced that he wanted to give the crowd a second freestyle for the night since he was unable to perform during the race. The crowd roared in approval, and after the Monster Truck final, Hancock wowed them all again. Ears are probably still ringing with the cheers and whistles that soluted his second freestyle performance.
Drivers and spectators, alike, were wiping their brows after this nail-biting Richmond weekend.
