Weekend Race Recap San Diego, CA (February 3, 2001) Santa Ana winds blew all day in San Diego, Calif, before the Wrenchead.com Ultimate Monster Jam took to the track at Qualcomm Stadium. The hot, dry air turned the track to dust. Officials had to water the track before the eight monsters came out to play. Pryo-strobe lights followed the legendary Grave Digger into the stadium; the crowd met their hero's grand entrance with a standing ovation.
Racing was close all night, but Wrenchead.com and Blue Thunder almost had a photo-finish. In the end, Blue Thunder shook out on top.
In freestyle competition, the crowd loved Grave Digger. Jill Canuso put one of the best freestyle performances of her career -- she flew as high and as far as Grave Digger.
Madusa, Grave Digger, and Wrenchead.com all did some long-run wheelies in the enormous stadium. Madusa capped her's off with a few wheel stands. But in the end the crowd loved Digger; Digger competed in freestyle without any rear steering. The ultimate bad boy nursed the crowd into a freestyle victory even with a broken rear-axle.
In pro-quad racing over 25 riders started in the last chance qualifier and the main event. There was lots of thrills, spills, and chills in the tight racing. Get the official points standings for the series on Tuesday at
