Date: November 7th, 1987.
Track: Indoors, a roller hill, pyramid of cars, a large roller hill, an outside turn and a set of 6 cars. Finish line is about 30 ft. after the cars.
Lineup: Rich Hooser (Bigfoot IV), Kevin Dabney (Duraliner Giant), Mike Nickell (Excaliber), Deihl Wilson (Virginia Giant), Fred Shafer (Bearfoot III), Don Maples (Samson I), Bill Townsend (Virginia Beach Beast)
Results:
Round 1: Hooser def. Dabney Wilson def. Nickell Shafer def. Maples
Semifinals: Hooser def. Wilson Shafer bye
Finals: Hooser def. Shafer
Grudge Race: Shafer def. Townsend
Notes: This was billed as the 1987 USHRA World Finals. The USHRA also debuted a new concept at this event: the pyramid of cars. This consisted of 4 cars laying end-to-end, 2 wide. On top of those sit 2 more cars in the traditional side-by-side way normally done. When Fred Shafer's Bearfoot challenged Bill Townsend's Virginia Beach Beast, it was one of the first times ever that the monster trucks took on the tank trucks. This would serve as a staple event for the USHRA finale for years to come.

I thought that Dave Marquart was in Excaliber?

One small correction... I just watched the video and the pyramid of cars actually had 6 cars laying end-to-end 3 wide.
Also Mike Nickell was the driver of the Excaliber that night, not Dave Marquart. So dave was correct.
