Some interesting notes:
-Dan Patrick's truck, Samson, has too much damage to repair, but due to a loophole in the PENDA points system, Bob Chandler (owner of Bigfoot) lends him Dungeon of Doom so he could continue to collect points. Points are giving to the driver not the truck, hence why Dan could race a different truck with no problems (other then the complaints of other racing teams).
-Hulkster was re bodied to Stinger for the rest of the season.
-Overkill destroyed their motor qualifying for show 3.
-Monster Patrol killed its motor in show 2. So for show 3 the team truck Super Truck 20 was renamed Monster Patrol.
-Runte driving Bigfoot rolled in show 4's semi finals

RACE #4





Canfield, Ohio, July 26-28, 1996




The Canfield Fairgrounds was rockin' and rollin' with good
weather and lots of racing excitement, as well as some surprising
turn of events for the next to the last Penda Race of 1996.



A good turnout of 14 trucks vied for the 12 open slots. The Canfield
roster included Predator, WCW Stinger, Rampage, Samson, Executioner,
Monster Patrol, Black Stallion, Bearfoot, Boogey Van, Overkill,
Super Truck 20, Bigfoot, Hercules, and Virginia Giant.





Weather forecasters predicted rain on and off throughout the weekend,
but except for a small shower on Friday, the weather was perfect,
with temps in the low 80s. Track conditions were a bit dusty,
but the track crew solved that problem by watering it down. Approach
angles on the the second set of cars for Friday's racing were
reported to be a bit steep, but the track was constantly worked
between races; overall, track condtions were very favorable.



Four Races were held throughout the weekend, and here are some
of the notable highlights:



We reported that Dan Patrick (Samson) crashed in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania,
and that the damage was confined to the body and rear axle. The
damage is taking a bit long to repair, so Bob Chandler (Bigfoot)
leased WCW/Dungeon Of Doom to Patrick to run as Samson in Canfield.
This interesting combination caused somewhat of a commotion among
race teams, but it allowed Patrick to compete and thereby earn
points. Our sources tell us that according to MTRA rules, Points
are awarded to drivers, and not trucks. So, technically, drivers
could play musical trucks at every show and still earn Points
in their name.



The truck normally known as WCW Hulkster was reskinned for the
rest of the season, beginning in Canfield, as the new WCW Stinger
truck. It will continue to be driven by Eric Meagher. MTRA rules
allow a truck name to be changed if a letter of request is received.



Friday saw Dan Runte in Bigfoot capture the finals, beating Eric Meagher
in WCW Stinger. Runte's 4.910 edged out Meagher's 5.010.



Saturday afternoon's final featured Rampage (Todd Frolik) pitted
against Overkill (Kirk Dabney). This close Race went to Rampage
by a time of 5.090 to 5.240 respectively.



Saturday evening's racing was without competitors Overkill and
Monster Patrol, who both suffered from annihilated motor syndrome.
Predator (Alan Pezo) was cookin' and went on to win the finals.
He progressed from the semi-final round when Bigfoot red-lighted.
Predator was then paired against WCW Stinger (Eric
Meagher) for the final race. Pezo says "I knew he had more
horsepower than me, so I went up to the line and immediately staged,
hoping that while staging he would roll through the Lights and
be DQ'd." Indeed, that is what happened. Meagher rolled through
the Lights twice. Our sources tell us that MTRA rules state that
when one truck fully stages, the competitor must not rull through
the lights, and must stage immediately. After the race, the DQ
was made official, and Pezo was awarded the win. His plan paid
off.



Sunday was a bad day for Bigfoot driver Dan Runte. He was paired
against WCW Stinger (Meagher) in the semi-final round and got a tad
crossed up on landing, which is a bad thing to do at Canfield, due to a
"lip" which drops off along that lane. He flipped violently , which trashed
the body, and rung Runte's bell. Reports indicate that Runte is
okay, but sore. It was a good day, however, for WCW Stinger (Eric
Meagher) who beat Bearfoot (Fred Shafer) with a time of 4.900
compared to Bearfoot's 4.930.



The final Penda Points Series Race takes place September 27-29,
1996 in Indianapolis.
