RACE #3
Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania Race Update
The Penda Points Series blew into Bloomsburg July 12-14, 1996, and offered some of the best Monster Truck racing so far this year. Monster trucks in attendance for the weekend of racing included Gunslinger, WCW Hulkster, Predator, Rampage, Dungeon Of Doom, Monster Patrol, Boogey Van, Executioner, Bearfoot, Samson, Undertaker, Black Stallion, and Bigfoot
Friday's Race qualifying was on a dry track, with temps in the 80s. The new, as-yet unused track threw a curve into Samson's qualifying run when the truck took a wild bounce off a hump in between the sets of cars and flipped over, totally destroying the custom fiberglass body and damaging the rear axle. The frame, rollcage, and engine were reported to be fine, but the axle and body damage knocked driver Dan Patrick out of the weekend's racing.
Saturday's side-by-side racing was delayed for about two hours to let the track dry out from heavy morning rains. Amazingly, the track crew worked on the course previous to the race, and there was actually dust flying from the dry lanes. Not bad considering everything else around the fairgrounds was saturated with water. Saturday's racing was safe and fast. Dan Runte in Bigfoot continued his control of first place by winning the first day's racing, plus pulling down fast time of the day with a 4.790.
Sunday was a busy day, with qualifying and racing all in the same day due to the late start on Saturday. The side-by-side racing on Sunday was good to the Hall Brothers Racing Team, who are enjoying a successful year with their Executioner truck. They joined Bigfoot, Monster Patrol, and WCW Hulkster in the semi-final round. Unfortunately for them, WCW Hulkster driver Eric Meagher was tunin' big time with his truck and knocked them out in that round. Executioner is currently enjoying a 4th place tie with Rampage due to that good round finish. Once again, Dan Runte won first place by defeating Eric Meagher in WCW Hulkster by less than .02 of a point in the final round. Runte also captured overall fastest time with a Sunday fastest 4.720.
By the time Sunday rolled around, word had spread of Dan Runte's engagement to Jana Jameson of the Penda Corp. The couple plans an early September wedding.
