RACE #2
Springfield, Missouri, June 14-16, 1996
The Penda Series moved south for this weekend of racing, and
they were met with warm weather. The temps hovered in the high
80's with rain on Friday morning, which saturated the track for
Friday night's racing. After that, however, the weekend and the
track dried out.
The first launch ramp was shorter at this Race than previously
at Lima and this made for a higher launch off the first set of
cars, and that required more "settle down" time between
the first and second set of cars. No trucks suffered any metal
mangling from the increased height that we know of. WCW Hulkster
did suffer an input shaft failure on Sunday, the cause of which
is unknown to us.
The trucks that were racing at Springfield included Rampage, Bearfoot,
Boogey Van, Overkill, Hercules, Monster Patrol, Predator, WCW
Hulkster, Executioner, Bigfoot, and Samson.
Once again, the Bigfoot Race team dominated the weekend. Driver Dan Runte
won all three of the final Races all weekend, which gives him a dominating Points
lead in the series. Fred Shafer in Bearfoot nailed down the fastest
time of the weekend with a blazing 4.880 seconds. The Hall Brothers
race team took Executioner to its first final in the Penda Series
during Sunday's racing, which gives them a massive Points boost
in the series.
