RACE #1
Spring 4-Wheel Jamboree Nationals
Lima, Ohio, May 18-19
The first outdoor Race of the '96 Penda season saw 12 trucks in attendance at Lima. Track conditions, even after a downpour of rain in days previous, turned dusty by Sunday's racing. It was hard to believe that would happen, because on Friday the teams' tractor-trailer rigs had to be parked on the infield oval track because the normal parking area was too soft to handle the weight of the rigs. Temps throughout the weekend hovered in the mid-80s with high humidity.
Trucks in attendance at Lima were Bearfoot, Bigfoot, Boogey Van, Executioner, Hercules, Hulkster, Monster Patrol, Moving Violation, Overkill, Rampage, Samson, and Tremor.
Tremor was the only truck to face race-stopping malfunctions. Rumor has it the truck was having electrical problems. These problems sidelined Tremor before qualifying on Friday, thereby ending its chances for the weekend. Other than that, it was a standard weekend of high-quality racing, with no crashes, or even close calls. Saturday's racing final found Bigfoot taking first place over rival Hulkster (Macho Man Meagher) by only .002 of a second. Bigfoot driver Dan Runte also captured Sunday's crown by defeating Bearfoot by a time of 4.830 to 5.060 respectively.
