The event was plagued with disqualifications, starting in the first round with Ron Dennis' Leadfoot, Jon Breen's Mad Dog and Dale Harris' Casper. In one of the closest races of the night, Scott Stephens' King Krunch and Gary Porter's Carolina Crusher hit at the end of the track, doing minimal damage to both trucks. Rod Litzau broke a front driveshaft on USA-1 during his quarterfinal race with John Moore's No Problem.
