Notes: The USA-1 crew spent all day repairing the truck from its first of many rollovers the night before. The truck was not fully repaired, however Rod Litzau couldn't get it past qualifying. This was also Rich Hooser's final race as the pilot of Bigfoot. Many assumed Jim Kramer would take over driving duties for Bigfoot owner Bob Chandler in the 1989 season. However, after a few events in the '89 season with Andy Brass driving, it was decided that Bigfoot IV, built in 1984, was out-of-date, and the team spent the season building the phenomenal Bigfoot VIII. This would prove to be the right season, however a controversial one, as Brass would go on to win the 1990 championship. Dale Harris' Casper broke the transmission on its way out to race Jon Breen's Mad Dog.
